History

When we discovered Torricella in 2010 it was a dilapidated, 17th century farmhouse complete with goats and pigs.  The original owners were keen to retire to the sea and were delighted to hand it over to a family with children. Our family loved that it came with olives, vines and an outdoor staircase typical of the region, and fell for its breathtaking view of the Nestore valley.

Renovation

There followed a year of contracts and planning, and a further four years of careful restoration.  An extension to the farmhouse was built with an outside dining area in order to reorientate the house to face the valley and make the most of the view that we love so much. The extension was faced in the original brick style, original windows were reopened to reveal long lost views, and earthquake proof structures were added throughout. All the work was carried out by a local builder and craftsmen using reclaimed materials where possible and incorporating energy saving systems to minimise the impact on the environment.

The Owners

Torricella is owned by Iain and Sophie and their three children.  We were lucky enough to be posted to Naples for three years and immediately fell in love with Italy.  It was towards the end of our stay there, after having travelled all over Italy, that we decided Umbria was where we wanted to put down roots.

Torricella, even in its dilapidated state, was all that we were looking for in an Italian house.  A four-year restoration project brought it back to life and has given us a family home in the most wonderful setting.  Although we currently live in Brussels, we intend to live permanently in Torricella one day, sharing this special place with family and friends.

Torricella provides the perfect holiday location for families with young children or teenagers, and for groups of friends.

If you would like to contact the owners for further information, please send us an email.
